The Software Project Manager's Bridge to Agility

The Software Project Manager's Bridge to Agility

Autor: Michele Sliger , Stacia Broderick

Número de Páginas: 387

When software development teams move to agile methods, experienced project managers often struggle—doubtful about the new approach and uncertain about their new roles and responsibilities. In this book, two long-time certified Project Management Professionals (PMPRs) and Scrum trainers have built a bridge to this dynamic new paradigm. They show experienced project managers how to successfully transition to agile by refocusing on facilitation and collaboration, not “command and control.” The authors begin by explaining how agile works: how it differs from traditional “plan-driven” methodologies, the benefits it promises, and the real-world results it delivers. Next, they systematically map the Project Management Institute’s classic, methodology-independent techniques and terminology to agile practices. They cover both process and project lifecycles and carefully address vital issues ranging from scope and time to cost management and stakeholder communication. Finally, drawing on their own extensive personal experience, they put a human face on your personal transition to agile--covering the emotional challenges, personal values, and key leadership traits you’ll need...

Syngineering: Building Agility into Any Organization

Autor: Richard Evan Thayer

Número de Páginas: 314

A New Comprehensive Framework for Building Agile Practices into Any Organization Regardless of Its Culture. In the disruptive volatility and complexity of today’s business world, yesterday’s problem-solving is no longer adequate. Organizations must have agility: people and process capabilities that can respond quickly to shifts in the external world. Syngineering, the term the authors have coined for how to meet this challenge, combines the best aspects of human dynamics, organization design, and the applications of technology. It replaces expert problem-solving with ‘design thinking’ and several other agile practices where employees collaborate in questioning, experimenting, and learning what’s needed as they develop meaningful and sustainable solutions. The book provides a framework and processes that can analyze the current environment and deliver the most effective design and change approach to fit the desired strategy and culture. Case studies from three different culture changes bring the methods to life. This practical and hands-on guide is for anyone working to improve organizational agility and performance. Gain agility, align and thrive.

Scaling Software Agility

Scaling Software Agility

Autor: Dean Leffingwell

Número de Páginas: 616

“Companies have been implementing large agile projects for a number of years, but the ‘stigma’ of ‘agile only works for small projects’ continues to be a frequent barrier for newcomers and a rallying cry for agile critics. What has been missing from the agile literature is a solid, practical book on the specifics of developing large projects in an agile way. Dean Leffingwell’s book Scaling Software Agility fills this gap admirably. It offers a practical guide to large project issues such as architecture, requirements development, multi-level release planning, and team organization. Leffingwell’s book is a necessary guide for large projects and large organizations making the transition to agile development.” —Jim Highsmith, director, Agile Practice, Cutter Consortium, author of Agile Project Management “There’s tension between building software fast and delivering software that lasts, between being ultra-responsive to changes in the market and maintaining a degree of stability. In his latest work, Scaling Software Agility, Dean Leffingwell shows how to achieve a pragmatic balance among these forces. Leffingwell’s observations of the problem, his advice on...

This book is a simple guide for anyone who wants to learn about the Agile concept and the Scrum framework by: • understanding the reasons behind various approaches instead of just going through do’s and don’ts and clichés, and • understanding the diversity and range of ideas in this domain rather than just the latest fashion. There are three types of content in this book: 1. Fundamental concepts: The first and the last chapters are about the meaning and dynamics of Agile projects. They build a solid foundation that helps you learn the details on the one hand, and on the other hand, find your own way in projects. 2. Agile Discussion Guide 3. 2

Agile Discussion Guide 3. 2

Autor: Leandog Software

Número de Páginas: 98

This guide is a comprehensive introduction to basic Agile terminology and thinking. While we have had many customers ask us for a "checklist on Agile", every team is different and no two teams practice Agile the same way. This guide serves as a blueprint, not a roadmap. We have defined and outlined the basic principles and practices of Agile. Each Agile practice falls into one of two categories: essential and advanced. Essential practices are defined as tasks that are crucial to adopting Agile. Advanced tasks, on the other hand, are not critical but greatly improve essential practices. Regardless of which practices you choose to adopt, we strongly suggest that this guide be used in the spirit of collaboration. As Agile is about constant improvement, it's very common to adopt the essential tasks first, and incorporate advanced tasks as you become more comfortable with Agile.
