Código Frieda

Autor: Rev.

Living at the Edge : a Biography of D.H. Lawrence and Frieda Von Richthofen

Autor: Michael Squires , Lynn K. Talbot , Lynn Kiefer Talbot

Número de Páginas: 530

Dashingly told and meticulously researched, this double biography of D. H. Lawrence and his wife Frieda von Richthofen is the first to draw fully on Frieda's unpublished letters and on interviews with people who knew her well. It explores their collision with an industrial world they hated and chronicles the stormy relationship between husband and wife. The strong sexual vitality that inspired Lawrence's art brought both joy and anguish to his marriage. Here, the Lawrences emerge as proud but not conceited in their unconventional lives, staunch in the face of fierce opposition from a conformist society. Living at the Edge follows the separate lives of Lawrence and Frieda up to their first meeting in 1912. Tracing their new life together, it depicts their grateful escape from the English Midlands; their discovery of exotic places where they made temporary homes--Italy, Cornwall, Australia, New Mexico, and Mexico; Lawrence's courageous battle against illness; and, after his death in 1930, Frieda's success in recreating the simple life on ranches near Taos, New Mexico, where she died in 1956. At the center of their story is Lawrence's literary career. Biographers Squires and Talbot...

Frieda Lawrence

Autor: Rosemary Jackson

Número de Páginas: 280

Married to the most popular English novelist of the twentieth century and the model for his major female figures - from Ursula in The Rainbow to Connie in Lady Chatterley's Lover - Frieda Lawrence has till now been seen only in her role as muse, mate and harridan. This book reassesses Frieda on her own terms. It looks at her childhood in Germany, her early marriage and painful experience of leaving her three young children, the dramatic and eventful years with D H Lawrence in Europe, England, Australia and Mexico and her life after Lawrence's death in 1930. We hear of her friendships with the Huxleys, Stravinsky, her unconventional views on Eliot, Pound and the Bloomsbury set, her notorious love affairs. Illustrated with rare photographs, some previously unpublished, this is the first study to challenge the usual myths about Frieda Lawrence and to let her speak in her own voice. It includes substantial extracts from Frieda's letters and autobiographical writings, as well as a republication of her memoirs of her life with Lawrence, Not I, But the Wind.

In the Shadow of the Holocaust

Autor: James F. Tent

Número de Páginas: 304

"James Tent recounts how these men and women from all over Germany and from all walks of life struggled to survive in an increasingly hostile society, even as their Jewish relatives were disappearing into the East. It draws on extensive interviews with twenty survivors, many of whom were teenagers when Hitler came to power, to show how "half-Jews" coped with conditions on a day-to-day basis, and how the legacy of the hatred they suffered still lingers in their minds."
