Ferrocenes

Autor: Petr Stepnicka

Número de Páginas: 670

Ferrocene—the prototypical metallocene—is a fascinating molecule. Even though it was first discovered over fifty years ago, research into ferrocene-containing compounds continues apace, largely stimulated by their successful applications in catalysis, materials science and bioorganometallic chemistry. Ferrocene derivatives are now recognised as useful starting materials for the preparation of new organometallic complexes and functional materials, efficient catalyst components, as well as redox-active modifiers to biomolecules. Ferrocenes: Ligands, Materials and Biomolecules provides the reader with a background overview and describes recent advances in the development and application of ferrocene compounds, including: synthesis and catalytic utilisation of chiral and non-chiral ferrocene ligands ferrocene-based sensors electrooptical materials ferrocene polymers liquid-crystalline materials crystal engineering with ferrocene compounds the bioorganometallic chemistry of ferrocene Ferrocenes: Ligands, Materials and Biomolecules is an essential guide for anyone working in the fields of organometallic synthesis and catalysis, materials science and bioorganometallic chemistry.

Organometallic Chemistry

Autor: M. Green

Número de Páginas: 504

Organometallic chemistry is an interdisciplinary science which continues to grow at a rapid pace. Although there is continued interest in synthetic and structural studies the last decade has seen a growing interest in the potential of organometallic chemistry to provide answers to problems in catalysis, synthetic organic chemistry and also in the development of new materials. This Specialist Periodical Report aims to reflect these current interests, reviewing progress in theoretical organometallic chemistry, main group chemistry, the lanthanides and all aspects of transition metal chemistry. Volume 31 covers literature published during 2002. Specialist Periodical Reports provide systematic and detailed review coverage in major areas of chemical research. Compiled by teams of leading authorities in the relevant subject areas, the series creates a unique service for the active research chemist, with regular, in-depth accounts of progress in particular fields of chemistry. Subject coverage within different volumes of a given title is similar and publication is on an annual or biennial basis.

Heterogeneous Catalysis for Energy Applications

Autor: Tomas R Reina , Jose A Odriozola

Número de Páginas: 540

Heterogeneous catalysis plays a central role in the global energy paradigm, with practically all energy-related process relying on a catalyst at a certain point. The application of heterogeneous catalysts will be of paramount importance to achieve the transition towards low carbon and sustainable societies. This book provides an overview of the design, limitations and challenges of heterogeneous catalysts for energy applications. In an attempt to cover a broad spectrum of scenarios, the book considers traditional processes linked to fossil fuels such as reforming and hydrocracking, as well as catalysis for sustainable energy applications such as hydrogen production, photocatalysis, biomass upgrading and conversion of CO2 to clean fuels. Novel approaches in catalysts design are covered, including microchannel reactors and structured catalysts, catalytic membranes and ionic liquids. With contributions from leaders in the field, Heterogeneous Catalysis for Energy Applications will be an essential toolkit for chemists, physicists, chemical engineers and industrials working on energy.

Bionanocatalysis: From Design to Applications

Autor: Roberto Fernandez-lafuente , Muhammad Bilal , Hafiz M.n. Iqbal , Tuan Anh Nguyen

Número de Páginas: 596

Bionanocatalysis: From Design to Applications discusses recent advances in nano-biocatalysis, fundamental design concepts and their applications in a variety of industry sectors. Strategies for immobilizing enzymes onto nanocarriers, made from polymers, silicas, carbons, and metals, by physical adsorption, covalent binding, cross-linking, or specific ligand spacers are also discussed as are the advantages, problems and solutions derived from the use of non-porous nanomaterials for enzyme immobilization. This is an important reference source for materials scientists and chemical engineers who would like to learn more about how nanobiocatalysts are designed and used. Biocatalysis has emerged as a sustainable technique to synthesize valuable commodity chemicals with wide applications in various industrial domains, such as in agriculture, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, biofuels, biosensors, biofuel cells, biochemicals, and foods. The synergistic integration of bio-catalysis engineering with nanostructured materials, as unique multifunctional carrier matrices, has emerged as a new interface of nano-biocatalysis (NBC). - Outlines the major nanocarriers used in nanobiocatalyst design -...

Synthesis and Application of Organoboron Compounds

Autor: Elena Fernández , Andrew Whiting

Número de Páginas: 334

The series Topics in Organometallic Chemistry presents critical overviews of research results in organometallic chemistry. As our understanding of organometallic structure, properties and mechanisms increases, new ways are opened for the design of organometallic compounds and reactions tailored to the needs of such diverse areas as organic synthesis, medical research, biology and materials science. Thus the scope of coverage includes a broad range of topics in pure and applied organometallic chemistry, where new breakthroughs are being achieved that are of significance to a larger scientific audience. The individual volumes of Topics in Organometallic Chemistry are thematic. Review articles are generally invited by the volume editors.

High performance computing for solving large sparse systems. Optical diffraction tomography as a case of study

Autor: Gloria Ortega López

Número de Páginas: 182

This thesis, entitled €High Performance Computing for solving large sparse systems. Optical Diffraction Tomography as a case of study€ investigates the computational issues related to the resolution of linear systems of equations which come from the discretization of physical models described by means of Partial Differential Equations (PDEs). These physical models are conceived for the description of the space-temporary behavior of some physical phenomena f(x, y, z, t) in terms of their variations (partial derivative) with respect to the dependent variables of the phenomena. There is a wide variety of discretization methods for PDEs. Two of the most well-known methods are the Finite Difference Method (FDM) and the Finite Element Method (FEM). Both methods result in an algebraic description of the model that can be translated into the approach of a linear system of equations of type (Ax = b), where A is a sparse matrix (a high percentage of zero elements) whose size depends on the required accuracy of the modeled phenomena. This thesis begins with the algebraic description of the model associated with the physical phenomena, and the work herein has been focused on the design of ...
