Contar historias va más allá de las palabras que las conforman. A partir de esta premisa, que marca la narratología de los últimos años, nace esta monografía con el objetivo de clarificar, dilucidar y explorar los rasgos de la fantasía épica contemporánea. Para ello, el punto de partida serán los rasgos principales de estas historias: los personajes, el espacio y el mito. Estas señales genéricas (o modales) marcarán tres visiones nacidas del hibridismo y la narratología, en las que se divide el libro. Primero, se planteará en una visión mitológica la pervivencia narrativa de los mitos y las leyendas, aquellos relatos de nuestros antepasados que son el origen literario de la fantasía épica actual, y que marcan en estas historias una división temporal narrativa.
