Machito (Francisco Raúl Grillo, 1909–1984) was born into a musical family in Havana, Cuba, and was already an experienced vocalist when he arrived in New York City in 1937. In 1940 he teamed up with his brother-in-law, the Cuban trumpeter Mario Bauzá (1911–1993), who had already made a name for himself with top African American swing bands such as those of Chick Webb and Cab Calloway. Pasado por la vida de los protagonistas y sus diferentes edades, Julio decanta un valor inigualable en Silent Love, pues la palabra escrita crece, se modifica y crea un efecto continuo lleno de vida, la cual puede traducirse en el resultado de esta historia. Silent love no es la típica historia de amor, es, sin embargo, una historia con la que muchos se verán reflejados.
