Katherine Artrive has lived a difficult life. Brought up by a family with fervent religious beliefs, there was little choice in hiding that she was not like the other girls her age. Katherine was a witch, and only her brother, Thomas, could know her magical secret. When her family learns what she is, she is outcast, losing everything she had ever known and loved, including her supportive brother. Now, after struggling to make a life for herself in the city, she is faced with one last chance at happiness, when Merik drops into her life. Merik has dark secrets of his own however, and has found himself as the focal point of an underground war. Can Merik trust Katherine to help him, despite his own bloody past; or will she follow in her family's footsteps and judge what she doesn't understand to be evil?
