Les jeunes gens droits sont invités à s’occuper du national-socialisme allemand et de son idéologie. Ces événements ne peuvent jamais se répéter, ni ici ni autrement sur le monde.

Cognitive science is the interdisciplinary study of the human mind. The system transformation after German unification in 1990 constituted an experiment on an unprecedented scale. At no point in history had one state attempted to redesign another without conquest, bloodshed or coercion but by treaties, public policy and bureaucratic processes. Unification was achieved by erasing the eastern political and economic model. However, in the meantime it has become clear that the same cannot be said about social transformation. On the contrary, social and cultural attitudes and differentiation have continued and resulted in deep divisions between West and East Germany. After unification, the injustices of politics seemed to have been replaced, in the eyes of most former GDR citizens, by unexpected injustices in the personal spheres of ordinary people who lost their jobs and faced unknown realities of deprivation and social exclusion. Using Nietzsche's categories of monumentalist, antiquarian and critical history, the author examines the historical and theoretical contexts of the collapse of the GDR in 1989 and looks at the positive and negative legacies of the GDR for the PDS (the successor party to the East German Communists). He contends that the Stalinization of the GDR itself was the product not just of the Cold War but of a longer inter-systemic struggle between the competing primacies of politics and economics and that the end of the GDR has to be seen as a consequence of the global collapse of the social imperative under the pressure of the re-emergence of the market-state since the mid-1970s. The PDS is therefore stuck in dilemma in which any attempt to "arrive in the Federal Republic" (Brie) is criticized as a readiness to accept the dominance of the market over society whereas any attempt to prioritize social imperatives over the market is attacked as a form of unreconstructed Stalinism. The book offers some suggestions as to how to escape from this dilemma by returning to the critical rather than monumentalist and antiquarian traditions of the workers’ movement.

This study embarks on the intriguing quest for the origins of the Caribbean creole language Papiamentu. In the literature on the issue, widely diverging hypotheses have been advanced, but scholars have not come close to a consensus. The present study casts new and long-lasting light on the issue, putting forward compelling interdisciplinary evidence that Papiamentu is genetically related to the Portuguese-based creoles of the Cape Verde Islands, Guinea-Bissau, and Casamance (Senegal). Following the trans-Atlantic transfer of native speakers to Curaçao in the latter half of the 17th century, the Portuguese-based proto-variety underwent a far-reaching process of relexification towards Spanish, affecting the basic vocabulary while leaving intact the original phonology, morphology, and syntax. Papiamentu is thus shown to constitute a case of 'language contact reduplicated' in that a creole underwent a second significant restructuring process (relexification). These explicit claims and their rigorous underpinning will set standards for both the study of Papiamentu and creole studies at large and will be received with great interest in the wider field of contact linguistics.

Kreolisierung ist nicht Wandel von etwas, was die Kreolisierer beherrschen, sondern Approximation an etwas, was sie nicht beherrschen. In den Kreolisierern siegt letztlich der Wunsch, aus den Materialien der sog. Basissprache eine voll funktionsfähige neue Sprache für eine neue Sprachgemeinschaft zu schaffen. Dabei verwenden sie Strukturen ihrer angestammten Sprachen. Der empirischen Teil führt neun Fälle vor, in denen eine Prägung des Kreols von Santiago durch das zeitgenössische Wolof nicht mehr bezweifelt werden kann, sechs Fälle, in denen eine solche Prägung sehr wahrscheinlich ist, und fünf Fälle, in denen sie nicht ausgeschlossen werden kann.

The Expression of Temporal Meaning in Caboverdean

One hot topic in contemporary linguistics concerns how we express the passage of time in natural language. In particular, interesting questions have been raised as to how formerly understudied languages fit into deep-rooted theoretical frameworks, which among other features comprise a grammatical category of tense. This monograph mainly contributes to this debate in two complementary ways: through a detailed description of a large set of new data from two varieties of Caboverdean, a Portuguese-related language, and through a novel approach to the role of its few temporal morphemes, which allows to better define how tense meanings, aspect, and mood, together with other linguistic and extralinguistic information, provide what we understand as past, present, and future. The adequate study of this non-standardized language, with its impressive internal variation, thus brings new insights to old theoretical problems. L’emigrazione immediato o meglio la fuga all’estero, ha salvato la vita. Con il nuovo progetto “Casa Vordtriede riburgo“ sarà ricordato ora. Dal 2002, l’iniziatore risiede con la propria famiglia nella casa antica. Fino ad oggi, si trova nella Strada Fichte numero 4. La fine del 2015, l’iniziativa privata è stato premiato con il premio della città. Poi ci fu un certificato di ringraziamento, l’anno successivo. Il gruppo destinatario del quiz sono adulti, adolescenti e bambini. Soprattutto i giovani sono incoraggiati a trattare con i nazisti e la lora ideologia. Questi eventi non dovrebbero mai essere ripetuti, né qui né nel in nessun’altra parte nel mondo.

Creoles, their Substrates, and Language Typology

Since creole languages draw their properties from both their substrate and superstrate sources, the typological classification of creoles has long been a major issue for creolists, typologists, and linguists in general. Several contradictory proposals have been put forward in the literature. For example, creole languages typologically pair with their superstrate languages (Chaudenson 2003), with their substrate languages (Lefebvre 1998), or even, creole languages are alike (Bickerton 1984) such that they constitute a “definable typological class” (McWhorter 1998). This book contains 25 chapters bearing on detailed comparisons of some 30 creoles and their substrate languages. As the substrate languages of these creoles are typologically different, the detailed investigation of substrate features in the creoles leads to a particular answer to the question of how creoles should be classified typologically. The bulk of the data show that creoles reproduce the typological features of their substrate languages. This argues that creoles cannot be claimed to constitute a definable typological class.
