En los desfiladeros de la psiquis

En los desfiladeros de la psiquis

Autor: Juan Gennaro

The Astonishing Adolescent Upheaval in Psychoanalysis

The Astonishing Adolescent Upheaval in Psychoanalysis

Autor: Roosevelt Cassorla , Silvia Flechner

Número de Páginas: 164

This book brings together international contributors to share insight from their theoretical and clinical work with adolescents, considering the different psychopathological responses they see in adolescent patients and how these can be worked with in analysis. Each chapter addresses a specific topic, focusing on representing the clinical realities facing psychoanalysts in treating adolescents with different types of disturbances at the psychic level. They cover a range of situations and perspectives, including discussion of maternal violence, the erotic field, self-mutilation, and social withdrawal, with a core focus on issues affecting contemporary adolescents. Bringing together a vast range of experience, The Astonishing Adolescent Upheaval in Psychoanalysis presents a new approach which re-establishes the impact of the responses of significant objects in the impasses present in narcissistic suffering. This book will be of great interest to all psychoanalytic and psychodynamic clinicians working with adolescents.

Territorios del acompañamiento terapéutico

Territorios del acompañamiento terapéutico

Autor: Susana Kuras De Mauer , Silvia Resnizky

Trauma and Pain Without a Subject

Trauma and Pain Without a Subject

Autor: Juan-eduardo Tesone

Número de Páginas: 186

Trauma and Pain Without a Subject explores the necessity of the subject of trauma emerging, particularly when a victim has experienced but not worked through disruptive situations, in order for unconscious pain to finally be experienced. The book is presented in three parts, with the first, "Transgression and Crime", uncovering silence around the topic of incest and sexual violence within the clinic. The second part, "Between Completeness and Nothingness", develops the topic of sexual violence and considers the construction of femininities and masculinities within the paradigm of a heteronormative patriarchal society, with reference to Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. The third part, “Yes, We See, But What? What We Hear”, explores the intimate relation between the visual and the auditory, especially in relation to hysteria. Trauma and Pain Without a Subject will be of great interest to psychoanalysts in practice and in training, and to all psychoanalytic practitioners working with trauma.

El IUSAM de APdeBA

El IUSAM de APdeBA

Autor: Héctor A. Ferrari

On Freud’s “Remembering, Repeating and Working-Through”

On Freud’s “Remembering, Repeating and Working-Through”

Autor: Udo Hock , Dominique Scarfone

Número de Páginas: 192

In On Freud’s “Remembering, Repeating and Working-Through” international contributors from a range of psychoanalytic backgrounds reflect on this key 1914 paper. Each chapter considers an aspect of Freud’s original work, addressing both the theoretical and clinical dimensions of the paper and incorporating contemporary perspectives. Bringing out all three aspects of the paper’s title, the contributors consider the issues raised by the so-called change in psychoanalytic paradigm, from the classic central concern of remembering to a clinical experience which prioritises enactment and repetition. The reflections on this important paper demonstrate how it goes beyond technique to open new vistas on the conception of psychoanalysis as a whole. On Freud’s “Remembering, Repeating and Working-Through” will be essential reading for psychoanalysts and psychoanalytic psychotherapists in practice and in training. It will also be of interest to readers seeking a deeper understanding of current Freudian thinking.

Psychoanalytic Studies of Change

Psychoanalytic Studies of Change

Autor: Siri Erika Gullestad , Erik Stänicke , Marianne Leuzinger-bohleber

Número de Páginas: 249

Psychoanalytic Studies of Change presents recent studies of the process and outcome of psychoanalytic therapy with an integrative perspective. A recurrent challenge in the discussion of therapeutic outcome is the gap between empirical, quantitative studies, reporting results on a group level, and the clinician’s interest in complex mechanisms of change presupposing microanalysis of dynamic interaction processes. This book bridges that gap via dynamic contributions from a variety of authors. Quantitative and qualitative studies are connected, epistemological and conceptual research is emphasized as specific domains, and in-depth clinical case studies are highlighted. The book comprises several new contributions to epistemology and conceptual research, as well as chapters discussing the challenge of combining qualitative and quantitative methods in studying process and outcome. Psychoanalytic Studies of Change will not only meet a need specifically within psychoanalysis for up-to-date research but also provide an overview of the latest empirical research on psychoanalysis for a broader clinical and academic group of readers. It will appeal to psychoanalysts in practice and in...

The Ego and the Id

The Ego and the Id

Autor: Fred Busch , Natacha Delgado

Número de Páginas: 181

The Ego and the Id: 100 Years Later revisits Freud’s classic 1923 essay, which developed key psychoanalytic concepts and presented a radical revision of his earlier theory. International contributors explore the themes of this remarkable work from their own perspective, with novel and surprising results. There are mysteries uncovered, questions raised about the validity of Freud’s perspective, problems in psychoanalytic technique based on those clinging to Freud’s earlier model of the curative process in psychoanalysis, cybernetics as a way of evaluating Freud’s model, and many other gems. With contributors highlighting the significance of the essay and offering critiques based upon new understanding gathered over the last century, The Ego and the Id: 100 Years Later offers a fresh, international perspective on this classic paper. This book will be essential reading for psychoanalysts in practice and in training and of great interest to scholars of psychoanalytic studies.

Couple Work, Work with Couples

Couple Work, Work with Couples

Autor: Éric Smadja

Número de Páginas: 172

Couple Work, Work with Couples provides a new exploration of psychoanalysis with couples. Éric Smadja takes two key approaches, first providing a metapsychological exploration of couple work – at intrapsychic-individual, intersubjective and group levels – and investigating love, being in love and the principal structural phases and psychic organisers of couples, then exploring the work of the choice of conjugal object and its historicity. He also introduces and develops useful notions such as intertransferential neurosis at work at the intersubjective level. Smadja continues by rethinking psychoanalytic work with couples, with reference to the work of leading French psychoanalysts, group analysts and couple analysts. The book highlights specific features of working with couples, such as the creation of a specific analytic situation – “the therapeutic group” – and then considers the benefits and expected effects of this kind of work. With clinical material from the author’s work throughout, Couple Work, Work with Couples will appeal to psychoanalysts and psychoanalytically informed clinicians working with couples.

On Freud’s “Neurosis and Psychosis” and “The Loss of Reality in Neurosis and Psychosis”

On Freud’s “Neurosis and Psychosis” and “The Loss of Reality in Neurosis and Psychosis”

Autor: Gabriela Legorreta , Catalina Bronstein

Número de Páginas: 154

On Freud’s “Neurosis and Psychosis” and “The Loss of Reality in Neurosis and Psychosis” explores these two key papers on the topics of psychosis and neurosis and their relationship to the unconscious and to reality. The contributors to this book approach these texts from both a historical and a contemporary point of view, highlighting their fundamental contributions and comparing Freud’s thoughts with modern psychoanalytic theory. The chapters demonstrate the ongoing richness of Freud’s work and his legacy by highlighting new ideas and developments and include both clinical vignettes and theoretical insight. The contributors also raise questions that deserve further study, about the understanding and treatment of psychosis in children, distinctions and similarities between autism and psychosis, and the way in which aspects of our rapidly changing world – social media, climate change, AI - influence the evolution of psychotic states. On Freud’s “Neurosis and Psychosis” and “The Loss of Reality in Neurosis and Psychosis” will be essential reading for psychoanalysts and psychoanalytically oriented clinicians in practice and in training. It will also be of...

Desire, Pain and Thought

Desire, Pain and Thought

Autor: Marilia Aisenstein

Número de Páginas: 146

Desire, Pain and Thought presents a new perspective on primal erotogenic masochism, which Marilia Aisenstein regards as the core of psychoanalytic theory. Aisenstein distinguishes between pathological masochism – the active search for pain – and primal erotogenic masochism, which she believes develops in early childhood. Desire, Pain and Thought explains that the formation of this response in a child is essential to the survival of the individual and the development of resilience. Aisenstein skilfully and convincingly uses her deep understanding of metapsychology and her mastery of Freud’s seminal papers to demonstrate that thought is one of the manifestations of desire which implies a painful renunciation of the object of desire. By moving away from its pathological, negative connotation to a more positive one, the book presents an understanding of masochism as “the guardian of life”. Desire, Pain and Thought will be essential reading for psychoanalysts in practice and in training.

The Freudian Matrix of André Green

The Freudian Matrix of André Green

Autor: Howard B. Levine

Número de Páginas: 179

The Freudian Matrix of André Green presents seven papers, never previously published in English, that will allow readers to more closely follow and more fully understand the development of Green’s unique psychoanalytic thinking. The chapters in this book provide valuable insight into Green’s response to a perceived crisis in psychoanalysis. His thinking synthesizes the work of Lacan, Winnicott, Bion and other post-Freudian authors with his own extensive clinical experience, and results in a much needed extension of psychoanalytic theory and practice to non-neurotic patients. Green’s focus on drives, affect and the work of the negative and his introduction and exploration of the Dead Mother complex, narcissism, negative hallucination and the death instinct constitute a vital expansion of Freudian metapsychology and its application to the clinical setting. The Freudian Matrix of André Green will be essential reading for psychoanalysts in practice and in training, and for any reader looking to understand more about the enormity of his contribution.

The Infinite Infantile and the Psychoanalytic Task

The Infinite Infantile and the Psychoanalytic Task

Autor: Nilde Parada Franch , Christine Anzieu-premmereur , Mónica Cardenal , Majlis Winberg Salomonsson

Número de Páginas: 281

The Infinite Infantile and the Psychoanalytic Task is a fascinating collection of essays that proposes to restore and elaborate original conceptions of the complexity of mental processes in the early years of life until the onset of adolescence, and from then until adulthood. This book, led by the Committee on Child and Adolescent Psychoanalysis (COCAP) of the International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA), commits to shedding light on new developments in theory and practice in this area. Each chapter offers an expression of current thinking and clinical work with child and adolescent patients, as well as with their parents, families, and community. The complex contributions by brilliant and erudite scholars offer a fresh take on the existing body of thought on infancy and childhood in psychoanalysis that will challenge and enlighten readers of all backgrounds. Within these perspectives, the development of internal and external bonds is the focus, as well as a consideration of how analysts work in their time with young patients at these key moments of the life cycle. With their expertise in childhood, the contributors share complex views on the link between analysis with young...

Shame and Humiliation

Shame and Humiliation

Autor: Carlos Guillermo Bigliani

Número de Páginas: 265

The Letters of Sigmund Freud to Jeanne Lampl-de Groot, 1921-1939

The Letters of Sigmund Freud to Jeanne Lampl-de Groot, 1921-1939

Autor: Gertie Bögels

Número de Páginas: 162

Freud wrote 76 letters to the Dutch psychoanalyst Jeanne Lampl-de Groot between 1921 and 1939. These letters are personable, lively, and compassionate and convey his respect and caring for Jeanne, who was his patient, pupil, and eventually his esteemed professional colleague. The letters are sociohistorical documents that contain Freud’s thoughts about pertinent issues in psychoanalysis and the interwar sociopolitical situation in Vienna and Germany. Jeanne Lampl-de Groot was an internationally known psychoanalyst who published extensively on psychoanalytic theory and practice. She regularly wrote long letters to Freud when residing outside of Vienna, seeking his advice on personal and professional matters and discussing with him her evolving ideas about psychoanalysis, including her disagreement with Freud about female sexual development. It is unfortunate that Jeanne had her letters to Freud destroyed because it sometimes makes Freud’s somewhat elliptical responses difficult to place in context. For example, it is quite probable that she wrote detailed descriptions of her husband’s emotional issues, which Freud then merely alluded to. Because we don’t know the specifics...

Clinical and Theoretical Aspects of Perversion

Clinical and Theoretical Aspects of Perversion

Autor: Juan Pablo Jimenez

Número de Páginas: 229

'Perversion is a challenge for theory and psychoanalytic practice that Juan Pablo Jimenez and Rodolfo Moguillansky, American psychoanalysts known for the originality of their contributions, have managed successfully. In this book they offer us vivid and detailed clinical material of patients of analysis who presented various kinds of perversions, which they accompany by a comprehensive and accurate review of major psychoanalytic contributions on the subject, and their own contributions to it.' The reader will find not only scholarship, but also he will find himself trapped in a thriller where the analyst is continually asked to leave his role as analyst to enter a game that fascinates and rejects. In a masterful way the authors describe their own internal vicissitudes in the treatment of these patients, the counter-transferential difficulties and how perversion becomes a source of inevitable collusions in the mind of the analyst.

Shame

Shame

Autor: David Keen

Número de Páginas: 360

"In The Politics of Shame, Keen explores the functions of the modern epidemic of shaming. He shows how shame has routinely been weaponised during civil wars, and how the public and private shaming of women has, for centuries, been a major tool of patriarchal control. He examines how and why people are shamed into purchases they cannot afford by a society and economic system predicated on continuous consumption. And he considers how social media has contributed to a spiral of shame, in which those who have been shamed often react by shaming others. Crucially, he also considers the interplay between shame (as a positive and progressive emotion, indicating a desire to move towards collectivism) and shamelessness (as a negative and regressive emotion, indicating a preference for individualism), and whether shame works to improve or worsen behaviour. Keen's narrative is informed by an engaging combination of fieldwork, interviews, and analysis of the theoretical literature on shame across multiple disciplines"--

New Argentine Cinema

New Argentine Cinema

Autor: Jens Andermann

Número de Páginas: 233

Argentine filmmaking from the mid-1990s to the present has enjoyed worldwide success. New Argentine Cinema explores this cinema in order to discover the elements that have made for this success, in relation to the country's profound political, social and cultural crisis during the same period. Jens Andermann shows how the most recent wave of films differs markedly from the Argentine cinema of the preceding decade, following the end of the dictatorship in 1983. Studying films by Lisandro Alonso, Albertina Carri, Lucrecia Martel, Raul Perrone, Martin Rejtman, and Pablo Trapero, among others, he identifies a shift in aesthetic sensibilities between these directors and those of the previous generation as well as a profound change in the way films are being made, and their relation to the audiovisual field at large. In combining close comparative analyses with a review of the changing models of production, editing, actorship and location, Andermann uncovers the ways in which Argentine films have managed to construct a complex, multilayered account of their own present, as shot through - or 'perforated' - by the still unresolved legacies of the past.

Autor: Ivonne Sánchez Becerril , Sebastian Thies , Arturo Alvarado

Resolving International Conflict

Resolving International Conflict

Autor: Isabel Bramsen , Poul Poder , Ole Waever

Número de Páginas: 275

Resolving International Conflict rethinks the dynamics of conflict escalation and continuation by engaging with research from the wide range of subfields in this area. The book suggests a new framework for understanding conflict as a particular form of situation, interaction and tension. It shows how conflicts are shaped by varied dynamics relating to emotion, securitization, incentives, digital technology and violence; even attempts at monitoring, resolving or remembering conflicts may end up contributing to their escalation or continuation. Split into two sections, the first part focuses on the question of why and how conflicts escalate, while the second part analyses the continuation of conflict. The book features several case studies of conflict escalation and continuation - in Bahrain, Israel-Palestine, South Sudan, Northern Ireland and, most prominently, the case of the Syrian uprising and subsequent civil war. Throughout the book, and, in particular, in the conclusion, the consequences for conflict transformation are discussed. This work will be of much interest to students of conflict resolution, peace studies, war and conflict studies, security studies and international...

Into His Presence

Into His Presence

Autor: Timothy L. Anderson

Número de Páginas: 282

A theologically grounded treatment of what it means to be close to God Numerous Christian books aim to provide guidance on relationships with God, but few base their conclusions on a biblical theology of intimacy. In this volume, Tim Anderson develops a biblical and holistic portrait of nearness to God, exploring key themes like God's Trinitarian union, the fall, God's fatherhood, marriage imagery, suffering, and our relationship with the Holy Spirit. A concluding chapter examines contemporary Christian songs that address oneness with God and evaluates their theological messages in light of the previous chapters. Into His Presence is a helpful guide for pursuing intimacy with God and distinguishing contemporary cultural understandings of close relationships from those communicated in Scripture.

Growth, Employment, and Equity

Growth, Employment, and Equity

Autor: Barbara Stallings , Wilson Peres

Número de Páginas: 276

A Brookings Institution Press and Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) publication In the last ten to fifteen years, the Latin American and Caribbean region has undergone the most significant transformation of economic policy since World War II. Through a series of structural reforms, an increasing number of countries have moved from closed, state-dominated economies to ones that are more market oriented and open to the rest of the world. Policymakers expected that these changes, in conjunction with lower rates of inflation and increased spending in the social area, would speed up economic growth, increase productivity, and lead to the creation of more jobs and greater equality. Have those expectations been fulfilled? Analyzing the impact of the reforms in nine countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Mexico, Peru), this study provides a detailed picture of progress to date. At the overall regional level, the book suggests, the reforms have had a surprisingly small impact: a small positive impact on investment and growth, and a small negative impact on employment and income distribution. But at the country, sectoral,...

Clinical Dialogues on Psychoanalysis with Families and Couples

Clinical Dialogues on Psychoanalysis with Families and Couples

Autor: David E. Scharff , Dr Monica Vorchheimer

Número de Páginas: 319

This book widens the scope of clinical and theoretical contributions on Couple and Family Psychoanalysis by collecting case presentations and discussions by analysts from Europe, North America, Latin America, China and Australia. The rich cross-fertilization across countries and analytic orientations stimulates cross-cultural thinking and deepens clinical exploration. In English language psychoanalysis, focus on object relations theory emphasizes internalization of early family figures in construction of the psyche, and their projective influence on others through continuing family interaction. Theories of the link and of the field explored in South America and Europe, shift focus from the internal life of the individual onto the influence of the other, and the way superordinate unconscious patterns introjected from previous generations are recreated by interacting members of families and couples, and in turn contribute to the continuing psychic evolution of individuals. Work in other cultures, such as China, brings us face to face with deep structures of thought and family organization that challenge Western psychoanalytic assumptions, even as those families are in rapid change...

¿Para qué sirve leer novelas?

¿Para qué sirve leer novelas?

Autor: Alejandra Laera
